The Beacon Sloop Club (Mural)
Support the "River Beacons" Mural Project

Rick Price, an award winning Beacon muralist, is in the process of painting a 15-ft high by 10-ft wide panel celebrating the 30th anniversary of the launching of the river sloop Woody Guthrie and the Beacon Sloop Club's contributions its rivertown community. The "River Beacons" mural will be among Beacon's first Hudson-Fulton Quadricentennial Celebration projects and is offered to the people of Beacon in appreciation of their support of the Woody Guthrie.

Rick has chosen to frame this mural with the body of an Esopus Indian River goddess, whose bounteous energy flows through the Hudson.  Much like the goddess, the BSC devotes itself to nurturing the river community of Beacon through the activities depicted: sailing, folk music, environmental education, public festivals, kayaking, the river pool, the farmers market, preserving open space and river access, and using alternative energy. Rick captures the river as the life-giving main artery of the Hudson Valley over the last four centuries and how the river has shaped - and will continue to define - the unique and vibrant character of Beacon and the local area.

The mural will be unveiled at the intersection of Cross and Main Streets, across from Hudson Glass. It will be mounted on a brick wall for all to see and enjoy.

The Beacon Sloop Club is grateful for the support of the following to help make this project a reality:
